Oshawa Music Awards 2021

Durham Region, it is time to be heard; Oshawa Music Awards are back and ready for your submissions.

Oshawa ON – Submissions for Oshawa Music Awards (The OMAs) will open on March 15, 2021; entering its fourth year, The OMAs continue to showcase local talent and acknowledge those who contribute to the growth of music and culture in the region. Notable past nominees and award winners include multi-platinum award-winning producer Jeff Dalziel, JUNO award-winning, indie-pop group Dizzy, former lead guitarist of The Guess Who, Dale Russell, Shawn Mendes, and Bill and David Wilson of Wilson & Lee Music Store.
The OMAs mission statement is "to celebrate the development of local music talent and culture within the Durham Region…[and] to acknowledge key contributors that aid in the growth of Durham Region's music business economy, providing a platform that highlights and nurtures its progression." The ten award categories for 2021 will include:
Emerging Artist or Band of the Year; Album of the Year; Single of the Year; Artist or Band of the Year; Songwriter(s) of the Year; Music Teacher(s) of the Year; Music Video of the Year; Durham Song of the Year; Music Industry Leader of the Year; and Lifetime Achievement Award/The OMA Hall of Fame 2021 Inductee(s).
"The Durham Region has a strong music scene. It continues to grow because of dedicated, talented people. The annual Oshawa Music Awards celebrates these individuals and groups who inspire and elevate us. We recognize them for their creativity and their commitment. Everyone,who contributed to the music scene by writing music, performing music, and building the music infrastructure in this region, is eligible over the last year. Eligible nominees and performers are from Durham Region, Ontario. The nominees must be born, reside, and/or work in any cities within Durham Region to be eligible for nomination consideration. For bands to be eligible, 50% of band members must have a background from Durham Region.
The nomination and voting process includes a number of steps to ensure balance, transparency, and professionalism. Submissions will be received through an online portal, the nominating and voting committee will screen all submissions for eligibility. Judges from across the region will vote to determine the nominees. In most categories, the public will cast votes for the award recipients. Committees will evaluate the Music Teacher, Music Industry Leader and Lifetime Achievement Awards.

About The OMAs
The OMAs is an annual event that recognizes the influence and achievements of local music creators, businesses, and music supporters within the Durham Region, Canada, and globally. This year, The OMAs is scheduled as three live stream events for September 9, September 16, and September 23, 2021.
Founded in 2017 by two students and a professor from the Music Business program at Durham College; The OMAs now stands as an independent cultural enterprise, with a management team, a steering committee, a nominating and voting committee.
In 2021,The OMAs aim to increase their efforts to be more diverse and inclusive to ensure equality for all stakeholders involved from the Durham Region are well represented of all backgrounds.
