The 6th Annual OMAs Announce This Year’s Nominees

Celebrating Music in Durham Region, the 2023 OMAs Take Place September 24th at The Regent Theatre

Under wraps no more, The OMAs have announced this year’s nominees! 

Now in its 6th year, The OMAs (formerly Oshawa Music Awards) recognizes the influence and achievements of local music creators, businesses, and music supporters that help to grow the music scene within the Durham Region, Canada, and globally. This year’s list of nominees promises to inspire audiences with their exceptional talent, in categories including Songwriter, Producer, Album, Music Teacher, and of course, voted for by the fans, Emerging Artist and Artist/Band of the Year!

Launched in 2018, previous OMA recipients include Crown Lands, Shawn Mendes, Lindsay Schoolcraft, Tania Joy, Skye Wallace, Hill Kourkoutis, Greg Keelor, and Wednesday.  

“Our list of 2023 nominees signifies once again that Durham Region is a hub for incredible talent.” OMA Executive Director Thao Nghiem says. “Our arts scene is growing and thriving, evidenced by this list of nominees.  The OMAs is a significant platform to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary artists who contribute to this musical landscape.  In addition, we are thrilled to be a part of the Convergence Music + Arts Weekend and to enhance the scope and reach of this region’s musical talent."

This year, the public is invited to vote for two, fan-choice categories: Artists or Band of the Year and Emerging Artist or Band of the Year, presented by RBC. Public voting is officially open via www.theomas.ca and set to close August 30th, 2023 11:59 P.M. 

Recipients of the 2023 OMAs for Music Teacher of the Year, Lifetime Achievement and Industry Leader are set to be announced soon.

The OMAs 2023 - Award Show will take place Sunday, September 24th at the iconic Regent Theatre in Oshawa, and is proudly presented by Durham Region Economic Development and Tourism, Spark Centre, Trent University Durham GTA, Durham College, Ontario Tech University, and RBC. Tickets for The OMAs are available through the Regent Theatre box office.

Now in its sixth year, The OMAs (formerly Oshawa Music Awards) rebranded in 2022, emphasizing a commitment to celebrating music in the Durham Region. Held annually, the show presents awards in 11 categories and recognizes the influence and achievements of local music creators, businesses, and music supporters that help to grow the music scene within the Durham Region, Canada, and globally. 

The OMAs 2023 - Award Show is thrilled to be part of the inaugural Convergence Music + Art Festival that will be taking over downtown Oshawa from September 22 to 24. The OMAs will be an integral part of Convergence Weekend, adding an extra layer of excitement and prestige to the festivities, giving attendees an unparalleled experience celebrating the very best of Ontario's music scene right here in Oshawa.
